The cold wind seeped through Sierra’s clothing, finding the patches of moisture she’d missed when drying herself off after bathing. She always enjoyed a brisk breeze, but tonight’s wind seemed dire rather than bracing. A hot soak would have been preferable to dunking into the frigid stream nearby, but who knew when she would experience that level of luxury again?

She managed to keep her hair dry, at least, which would save her the inconvenience of having wet hair for… well, the night’s events.

Like most lupine, she knew what mating entailed, but only from what was passed on through conversation. Her parents had never given her the official talk, her mother having died when Sierra was all of ten. Then her father was killed while scouting new territory. And Kalle would sooner have eaten his tongue than explain anything to her, but by the time she’d turned old enough to start seeking a mate, she had heard enough from others.

She’d spent years looking forward to it and had romantic notions of how wild and magical it would be. Like most of her expectations from life, however, this night would turn out to be far from what she’d dreamed. She assumed it would be perfunctory. Mating lasted until the female marked the male, leaving that aspect of the act in her hands.

Normal couples would rut through the entire night.

She assumed she’d let Viktor knot her the one time and then mark him, letting him off the hook, so to speak.

But would that relieve him or insult him? She wasn’t entirely sure. Part of mating was stroking the male ego. Lupine had supernatural stamina, after all, and the males in particular wanted to show it off. If she cut his night short, he may not thank her for it.

The more she considered her options, the more it seemed she should let him enjoy the act and allow him to continue until… well, however long. Even if he didn’t love her or truly want her as a mate, he had to want the sex. They were amazing at sex, and mated sex—mated sex was supposed to be rather epic.

For females, it was also a thing of some discomfort.

Immense pleasure too, of course, but also some strange sensations due to being knotted. And woe to a virgin, as males were massive in their pure lupine form. Thankfully that wouldn’t be the case for Sierra.

For the males, mating was mind-blowing bliss. Not only because of the physical action, but from the psychological high. They were allowed to be as feral and dominating as they craved.

Viktor had once admitted to wanting to punish Sierra with his knot. He was going to get that wish.

A shiver ran through her as she found her way back to their camp, one of anticipation, and one that she welcomed. She lingered at a distance for a moment, simply looking at him, his shape outlined by the dim glow of firelight.

The sight reminded her that tonight wasn’t just about him, or survival. There was no law against her enjoying herself.
